The man behind the wheel who was allegedly driving under the influence during a deadly crash is now facing a charge of first-degree murder.
According to Bakersfield Police, 24-year-old Cristian Avalos was driving a car that collided with another car early Monday morning in the area of the 99 and Panama Lane.
The driver of the car that was hit, identified as 28-year-old Pablo Villareal Garcia, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to court records, Avalos pleaded guilty in 2013 to an incident where he was allegedly driving under the influence. He also pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct while being drunk in 2012.
He's scheduled to be in court at 3 p.m. Thursday.
