The coroner's office has identified the woman killed overnight after reportedly walking into traffic just north of Lamont.
Officials say 32-yr old Luciana Perez of Lamont was walking along Weedpatch Highway just south of Wilson Road around 11 p.m. when she reportedly walked out into the roadway in front of a car.
Investigators say the driver attempted to swerve but was not able to avoid hitting Perez. She was taken to Kern Medical where she later died.
The California Highway Patrol said they believe Perez and the driver of the car were both under the influence.
The driver was arrested and taken into custody.
