BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — One massage facility has closed and one woman was arrested after a sting operation conducted by KCSO and Kern County Public Health Services.

The sting operation was conducted on December 19 and involved Angel Massage, located on E. California Avenue in East Bakersfield, and Paradise Spa, located on Chester Avenue in Oildale. At Angel Massage, KCSO arrested Hiu May for solicitation of prostitution. A woman from Bakersfield was cited at Paradise Spa for exposure of another person at Paradise Spa.

Additionally, Kern County Public Health Services required Angel Massage to immediately close. Kern County Public Health Services issued a Notice of Violation to Angel Massage due to numerous violations, including massage practitioner clothing exposing undergarments, and the massage practitioner operating without a California Massage Therapy Council certificate. Paradise Spa was issued a Notice of Violation due to multiple violations, including exposure of another person and allowing an individual to reside within the massage establishment.

This is the sixth sting operation for Kern County Public Health Services under a county ordinance. To date, Kern County Public Health Services and KCSO have performed sting operations on 15 local massage establishments. According to Kern County Public Health Services, 100% of the sting operations have resulted in violations and arrests relating to prostitution and other illicit acts.

Anyone who suspects illicit activity at a massage facility is asked to call Kern County Public Health Services at 661-321-3000.
