Animal control confirms that the dogs have fully recovered, now available for adoption

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - (UPDATE: October 1, 2018 5:25 p.m.) According to BPD, Animal control confirms the dogs have fully recovered and are now available for adoption at the City of Bakersfield Animal Care Center.

Officials said that they are still waiting for necropsy results for the one dog that had died.

(UPDATE: September 28, 2018 2:13 p.m.) BPD has confirmed that the surviving dogs ingested an undetermined harmful substance.

They are currently investigating whether it was intentional or accidental.

People living in an East Bakersfield neighborhood believe three dogs were intentionally poisoned on Thursday.

One dog was seen acting erratically and spinning in circles before dying near the intersection of Williams Street and Oregon Street. A short time later, two dogs at a home down the street were seen spinning in circles and acting strange as well. They were taken to be treated by Bakersfield Animal Control.

A neighbor reported seeing a silver SUV feeding or attempting to feed the first dog, and a necropsy is being done to determine what killed him. The other two dogs are being treated, and Bakersfield police said they were alive as of Thursday evening.

BPD is investigating. If you have information, call 661-327-7111.
