East Hills Target location reopened after closing

(UPDATE: 10:28 AM, Dec 10, 2016) - The Kern County Health Department says that the Target has reopened this morning.

===================================

The Kern County Health Department has shut down the East Hills location of Target.

Health inspectors found water on the floor of the food/produce area during inspection after they received a complaint.

Overflowing sewage was found in several parts of the store including the restrooms and food court. Restroom toilets were not working.

The overflowing sewage -- which health officials refer to as "gray water", or water that is contaminated -- was coming up through the floor drains.

23ABC News has learned that Target had been working with health officials to fix the issue for several days before the Health Department ultimately made the decision to temporarily close the store on Friday.

Target will stay closed until they fix the plumbing situation and perform sanitizing procedures.
