Taft woman assaulted during family dispute in February dies

TAFT, Calif. — The Kern County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a woman, who was assaulted during a family dispute in February, died Monday.

According to the Kern County Sheriff's Office, around 8:30 p.m. on February 19, deputies assigned to the Taft Substation were dispatched to a home in the 200 block of Pierce Street in Taft for reports of a family dispute.

When deputies arrived, they discovered an elderly woman suffering from what appeared to be minor injuries. Thirty five-year-old Joseph Taylor was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse. KCSO says Taylor is currently in custody awaiting court proceedings.

On Monday, April 15, the woman died.

KCSO says it is unknown at this time if the death is related to the assault that occurred in February. KCSO says the cause and manner of death will be determined by the Kern County Cororner's Office.
