On November 04, 2016, at about 10:30 a.m., Kern County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a threat of a possible explosive device on the campus of Standard Middle School.

When deputies arrived, they said they contacted school personnel who reported a threat had been made to the school indicating an explosive device had been placed at the school.

School personnel began evacuating students from Standard Middle School, as well as Standard Elementary which is adjacent to Standard Middle, to an area away from the school as a precaution. School personnel ultimately made a decision to close the school for the remainder of the day.

Deputies, with assistance from the Bakersfield Police Department and California Highway Patrol, began searching the school grounds for any suspicious or potentially explosive devices.

After a thorough search, the search was ended at about 1:45 pm after no items were located.

The investigation is ongoing. If anyone has information on this case they are asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 661-861-3110 or Secret Witness at 661-322-4040.
