A family is still in shock after a man tried to kidnap two young girls on Thursday morning in central Bakersfield.

According to Bakersfield police, it all started just before 11 a.m. when they received a call of a man under the influence jumping over fences and running through people's yards. The suspect was identified as 32- year-old Clarence Dupree. Police say they believe he was under the influence of spice.

Neighbors say the suspect was running through alleys and then made his way to the home where the little girls were outside. Their mother says she told her girls to go to the front yard and Dupree then ran into her home.

Dupree then came out of the house to the front yard where he grabbed the four year old girl. She was treated at the hospital for minor injuries, including a cut on her leg.

He then tried to grab the six year old who was also in the yard, she grabbed onto the fence and was uninjured.

Dupree was able to get away from the front yard of the home only to be stopped by neighbors who heard the commotion and helped hold him down until police showed up.

The mother of the two girls says they're okay but still a little shaken up.

Dupree was booked into the Kern County Jail on $280,000 dollars bail. He faces two felony counts of kidnapping, among other charges. He is due in court on Monday.
