BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A potential Bakersfield family could be a part of bringing back one of Americas iconic shows, Extreme Makeover: Home edition.
That’s right we all could be chanting “Move that Bus” here again in Bakersfield! 23ABC was able to sit down with the Brady Connell, executive producer, for the show. He share what they are looking for in the perfect family right here in our community.
“A long time ago communities really came together and I think the country could use a solid move that bus right about now,” said Connell.
The Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, now airing on HGTV, is considering teaming up with the Bakersfield community to build a home for a deserving family.
“People don’t realize that the whole home is donated from the local community,” explained Connell. So the builder donates their time and resources, communicates with all of their vendors and donates everything. Everything is donated by the community.”
The popular show visited Bakersfield back in 2004 and did a makeover at this property on South Union Ave. Connell shares that they have a formula for what they are looking for in the next family.
“[We really want them to think about] what family has really had an impact on the community. A family that has given back no matter what,” said Connell.
“They might have had some rough spots themselves, but they continue to give back to the community. We are looking for hometown heroes. It gives the community an opportunity to give back to that family.”
Producers say they are still in the early stages of the show, but they do say there will be a new twist.
“We are also open to renters; we are talking to various organizations in the city about a piece of land can be become available for renter,” shared Connell. “Obviously if that happens that would be huge if that family could get into a home.”
The possible air date will be in 2020 with a total of ten episodes. If you know anyone you would like to nominate for this extreme home makeover be sure to follow this link.
