BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Kern County Coroner has identified the man who was shot and killed last Friday in Delano, as 21-year-old Adam Rene Guillen.
On Monday evening, Lydia Salazar Rodriguez, the mother of Guillen, visited the candlelight memorial on County Line Road and Hiett Avenue. The same place where her son was shot. Guillen and four others were hit with gunfire around 11:30 p.m. on Friday.
"He was the perfect son to me," Rodriguez said.
Guillen died at the hospital, and another person was seriously injured. The three others had non-life threatening wounds.
"These senseless murders that have benefited no one - no one. No one is benefiting from this and as a community, we need to come together and support each other," Rodriguez said.
More than a dozen people gathered and shared memories of Guillen among the candles that lined the sidewalk bearing photos of Guillen.
"He was that boy who would open the door for the elderly," Rodriguez said. "If he saw someone crossing the street that needed help, he would pull over to the side of the road and walk him across".
