Family and friends remember 4-year-old boy killed in car crash near Lamont

Members of the Arvin Little League joined together at a park in Arvin Friday night to remember a four year old boy who was killed in a crash earlier this week. 

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened on Thursday around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Buena Vista Blvd. and South Vineland Rd. 

Eastbound traffic and westbound traffic are not controlled at the intersection. 

Adela Duarte, 60, of Bakersfield was driving northbound on S. Vineland Rd. and came to a stop for a posted stop sign at the intersection. 

Duarte entered the intersection while it was unsafe and drove directly into the path of Monica Rodriguez, 28, who was traveling westbound on Buena Vista Blvd. 

The front of Rodriguez's car struck the right side of Duarte's vehicle. 

Duarte suffered major injuries and was transported to Kern Medical. Miguel Contreras who was riding with Duarte also suffered major injuries and was transported to Kern Medical.

Rodriguez suffered minor injuries. A 4 year old boy who was a passenger in Rodriguez's car died at the scene. His name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

Two other passengers in Duarte's car, Arriana Monroy, 17, and Miguel Contreras, 28, suffered minor injuries. 

Alcohol and drugs are not expected to be factors in the crash. 

On Friday night dozens gathered to release balloons in memory of the four year old boy who died.
