David Marcus, the Bakersfield native who fought successfully multiple times against cancer, has died.
His family posted a message on his Facebook page on Friday morning confirming that Marcus had passed away.
The post said in part, "It's with a heavy heart that we must share that Bakersfield's beloved David Marcus has peacefully gone to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ."
The news comes a day after a crowd sourcing campaign raised enough money to get Marcus a star outside Bakersfield's Fox Theater.
Kevin MCarthy responded to a previous message from the POTUS last week, saying how he's heartbroken behind David's passing.
Heartbroken. David has passed away, but his positive attitude will continue to serve as an inspiration to every life he touched. My prayers are with his family during this very difficult time.— Kevin McCarthy (@GOPLeader) June 28, 2019
David's sister tells 23ABC that the family plans to have a memorial service next Saturday July 6 at 10 a.m. at Valley Bible Fellowship.
