Family, friends and dignitaries gathered Monday morning as they say their goodbyes to civil rights activist Helen Chavez.

The wife of civil rights leader Cesar Chavez, Helen Chavez died last week in Bakersfield. She was 88 years old. 

On Monday, a memorial was held at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Tehachapi. Service began at 9 a.m.

Following that memorial, Chavez will be transported to Keene, where she will be buried alongside her husband at the Cesar Chavez Monument.
