UPDATE (Dec. 12 4:45 p.m.): The pedestrian in the fatal accident has been identified as 61-year-old Launie Jay Geer of Bakersfield. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A car hit and killed a male on S. H Street and Belle Terrace in South Bakersfield Friday evening, according to California Highway Patrol.

The person was hit by two separate vehicles.

There were conflicting witness statements about how many cars were involved.

Officials believe speed was possibly a factor.
