One person is dead and several other were injured when a trailer disconnected from a pickup truck and struck two people on the sidewalk Wednesday afternoon.

Sgt. Ryan Kroeker with the Bakersfield Police Department said that a pickup truck carrying a trailer was heading northbound on Wible Road at White Lane.

The trailer disconnected and hit two people standing on the sidewalk.

One of the pedestrians, a man, was hit and thrown into the trailer and died. The second pedestrian, was taken to an area hospital and is expected to survive.

The trailer continued traveling down the road and struck a vehicle that then crashed into two other vehicles at the intersection of White Lane and Wible Road.

All the occupants in the vehicles that the trailer crashed into received minor injuries.
