BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — On Monday, around 4 p.m., there was a fatal pedestrian versus vehicle collision in the 4000 block of Manor Street, east of North Chester Avenue.

The pedestrian was killed, and the coroner was called to the scene.

According to California Highway Patrol, a Ford food delivery truck was parked on the south shoulder of eastbound Manor Street when the pedestrian was standing in the second lane of either retrieving or returning a delivery to the trucks open left rear door.

A Hino box truck was going eastbound on the same street in the lane the pedestrian was on, at approximately 40 miles per hour.

Seeing the pedestrian, the driver of the Hino box truck moved to the left side of the lane, but hit the opened door of the delivery truck, causing the crash that killed the pedestrian on the scene.

There were no other injuries reported.
