Finally Friday: Kick off your summer with these local events

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Kern County, it is finally Friday! For many of us, it is also the start of summer. So let's kickoff summer the right way with these events happening across the county.

End of the Month Wine Tasting at Cafe Med

After work, head over to Cafe Med and enjoy their End of the Month Wine Tasting. It is a great time to unwind, sample new wines, and enjoy good food. These specials only happen at the end of the month so you don't want to miss out. The wine tasting starts at 5:30 p.m. at Cafe Med Restaurant.

Emo Night Tour at Jerry's Pizza and Pub

After unwinding with a glass of wine, switch to a Mike's Hard Lemonade and relive your angsty days with Emo Night. Emo Night takes you back to the early 2000s with songs from Taking Back Sunday, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, and more. So lather on some eyeliner and travel back to a time where your biggest worry was who was in your MySpace Top 8. Doors open tonight at 10 p.m. at Jerry's Pizza and Pub. Tickets are $13 at the door.

Touch-a-Truck

Saturday morning take the kids to Beale Memorial Library for the Touch-a-Truck event. This unique event brings dozens of County and community vehicles together for a hands-on experience the kids will love/ They will have the chance to check out Animal Services trucks, Bomb Squad trucks, fire trucks, and more while also meeting the people who use the trucks. Touch-a-Truck starts at 9 a.m. Saturday at Beale Memorial Library.

36th Annual Civil War Reenactment

After checking out all of the cool trucks, take the drive out to Fort Tejon for the 36th Annual Civil War Reenactment. Travel back in time for a hands-on experinece of what life was like during the Civil War. Tour Union and Confederate camps, check out the artillery, and even meet President Jefferson Davis and President Abraham Lincoln. The reenactment starts at 10 a.m. Saturday and runs through 5 p.m.

Country Night at Kern County Raceway

After taking in some history, kick off your walking shoes for some boots and head down to Kern County Raceway for Country Night. Enjoy some live music, drink specials, and of course racing to kickoff your summer. Bakersfield's own 'Smokin Armadillos' will be providing the entertainment. There will also be NASCAR-sanctioned racing with Late Models, Super Stocks, and Modifieds. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and the racing starts at 7 p.m.

Bakersfield Hot Fudge Sundae Run

Sunday morning rise and shine for the Bakersfield Hot Fudge Sundae Run. A hot fudge sundae doesn't really count as breakfast food but after completing the 5k run or 2k walk, you definitely earn it. Packet pickup for the race starts at 7:15 a.m. Sunday morning at 9000 Ming Avenue. The race kicks off at 8 a.m.

Kern River Brewing 13th Anniversary

After getting in your morning run, wind down with some delicious local beer. Kern River Brewing is celebrating its 13th anniversary with live music, dancing and of course beer. They're even releasing an anniversary beer named The River Rita. The party starts at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Kern River Brewing in Kernville.
