Finally Friday: Spend your three-day weekend at these local events

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — It is finally Friday and a three-day weekend! Let's kick things off by checking out all of these events happening across the county this weekend.

3rd Annual Western Swingout Weekender

Looking to travel back in time? Pack the kids in the car and head to Tehachapi for the 3rd Annual Western Swingout Weekender. Enjoy your favorite Western swing bands in a picturesque, small-town environment. There will be a Western film festival, Western costume competition, swing dancing. and more. The weekender starts Friday night at 5 and runs through Monday.

Bakersfield Train Robbers take on the Monterey Amberjacks

If you're looking to stay closer to home this weekend, nothing beats a Friday night filled with spring training. The Bakersfield Train Robbers are taking on the Monterey Amberjacks Friday at 7:45 p.m. Tickets are on $10, so grab a jacket and bring the whole family!

BPD Scout Days

Saturday morning, boys and girls in the Scouts have the chance to check out the Bakersfield Police Department Headquarters. BPD will be holding group tours and demonstrations from their K9, Bomb and SWAT Units for Boy and Girl Scout troops. The tours kick off at 10 Saturday morning at BPD Headquarters downtown.

Fundraiser for Greyson

After the tour, head over to Crusader Brewing to help a boy in his battle with cancer. Four-year-old Greyson is battling cancer for the second time. His family is holding a fundraiser at Crusader Brewing to raise money for his treatments. They will be selling tacos at the brewery starting at noon Saturday.

21st Annual Latino Food Festival Menudo and Pozole Cook-Off

Fill up your Sunday with not one, but TWO food festivals. Start your day off at the 21st Annual Latino Food Festival Menudo and Pozole Cook-Off. The Kern County Museum will be filled with amazing food, live music and even a jalapeño eating contest. The festival will bring the best menudo and pozole to one place. The event starts at 11 Sunday morning.

47th Annual Basque Festival

After getting your menudo and pozole fix, head over to the Kern County Basque Club for the 47th Annual Basque Festival. Enjoy authentic Basque food, dancing and even a handball game. If you can't make it Sunday, don't worry! The festival is running all weekend. Doors open at 8 Sunday morning.

Thousand Flags Event

Monday marks Memorial Day, and while the weekend is typically known for road trips and family time, the day is meant to honor the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Monday morning, honor our local heroes by attending the Thousand Flags event at The Park at River Walk. It will be a beautiful experience. You can also sponsor a flag in honor of a loved one for $50.

Camp Hamilton Veteran Memorial Park BBQ

Camp Hamilton is also honoring these heroes with a barbecue. Remember those who we have lost and connect with others over some delicious food. The event starts at 2 Monday afternoon at Camp Hamilton Veteran Memorial Park.
