The Kern County Fire Department responded to reports of a brush fire Sunday.

The brush fire was reported on Highway 178, in the Kern River Canyon, shortly after 11 a.m.

Dubbed Greenhorn Fire, the blaze burned just 2 miles east of the mouth of the canyon.

Ground crews and an air tanker were used to help fight the fire.

The California Highway Patrol closed both eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 178 for approximately one hour.

It's unclear what sparked the brush fire.
