Fire crews say Oildale home did not have smoke detector at time of blaze

Posted

Three people are out of a home after a fire in Oildale on Monday morning.

According to the Kern County Fire Department, a home on Linda Vista off North Chester Avenue caught fire around 5 a.m. Monday.

A man and a boy suffered minor smoke inhalation and refused treatment. A woman was also in the home and was not hurt.

KCFD officials say the man tried fighting the fire with a water hose.

KCFD says the home didn't have an active smoke or fire alarm. The people inside apparently were woken up when they started choking on smoke.

KCFD is working to determine the cause, but believe it might have been an electrical issue.
