A family is displaced after a fire ripped through their Central Bakersfield home this afternoon.

Firefighters responded to 8th and P Streets shortly before 1 p.m. after they received calls of heavy fire coming from one home that was quickly spreading and threatening several nearby residences.

We obtained cell phone video from a neighbor that shows just how fully engulfed in flames the home was when units arrived on scene.

Firefighters said dry landscaping helped spread heat and fire embers which spread quickly to three homes, making it tough to knock the blaze down.

The triple digit heat certainly did not make the fight any easier. Both Bakersfield Fire and Kern County Fire Departments were on scene along with Bakersfield police officers who were there handling traffic control.

After over two hours and the hard work of 50 firefighters, a knockdown was finally declared. No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The family that lived at the destroyed home told 23ABC that it has been in their family since 1949.
