UPDATE (Oct. 9 4:49 p.m.): KCFD said the fire on Pacheco and Cottonwood is being mopped up and is mostly out.
KCFD responded to a grassfire burning near Pacheco and Cottonwood just after noon today. The fire threatened several homes. One was occupied and a couple vacant structures burned.
Many suffered burns and were injured or killed in the fire. KCFD did not have a count of how many animals.
KCFD said Monday's fire is a reminder to sign up for Ready Kern Alert app, which will notify you about evacuations.

UPDATE (Oct. 9. 4:31 p.m.): McKee Middle School has usual drop-offs in the affected area, so students were taken to Rafaello Palla instead.
500 Fairview Elementary School students were evacuated. The Red Cross is set up at the Ben Austin-Greenfield Senior Center at 1751 McKee Road. Snacks and water are available and Kern County Animal Services dropped off cages.
Triple C Ranch at 5818 S. Fairfax Road is offering housing for displaced animals, horses too.

UPDATE (Oct. 9 2:23 p.m.) Fairview Elementary School is being evacuated due to fire to Raffaello Palla Elementary: 800 Fairview Rd, Bakersfield, CA 93307
NEW: A fire is burning in South East Bakersfield on E. White Lane near Cottonwood and Pacheco roads.
We have crews heading to the scene to gather more information.
