BAKERSFIELD, CA. — Canceled firework shows due to Covid-19 has prompted many families to take the traditional firework show upon themselves this year.

“Business is great this year, we’ve had astronomical sales compared to last year already," said Jacob Winkle, the firework manager for the American Kids Sports Center booth.

Over a $1,000 worth of fireworks sold in a single purchase at a local firework stand Thursday morning including their highest priced item, 'The Big Bang' set, which includes hours of firework displays.

“Thats the big box, I think we only get one of those a year and it’s gone," said Winkle.

These local firework stands also help support local nonprofit organizations.

“We are raising money for our soccer club called the South Valley Surf, a boys and girls soccer club," said Lynn Bradshaw.

“We are benefiting 'JUMP', just us motivated parents, we are a booster club for American Kids Sports Center, so gymnastics and TNT and cheer," said Winkle.

Local firework stands say they don't necessarily have more inventory to meet the higher demand this year. So, if you're interested in buying fireworks, buy them sooner rather than later.
