County fire officials have finished adding up the total number of calls for fireworks, illegal seizures and citations handed out over the holiday weekend.

According to Kern County Fire, there was over 6,900 calls total, which was up nearly 59 percent compared to 2018. There were 703 reports of illegal firework use by phone, up by 122 percent compared to 2018. And there were more than 1,700 online reports of illegal fireworks.

In all, the total number of reports is over 2,400, up more than 600 percent from two years ago.

And Kern County Fire is also reporting they gave out 35 citations for illegal fireworks use and they seized two-thousand pounds of illegal fireworks.
