Dr. Jen Welter, the first female NFL coach, will be in Bakersfield today, Friday October 06, 2017 to speak at the Kern High School District Girl's Leadership Summit.
The summit is scheduled to take place from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Golden Valley High School.
Dr. Jen Welter was not only the first woman hired by the NFL to be a coach, but she was also the first woman to take part in a men's professional football league, as a running back.
Dr. Welter will be giving the keynote speech during the event today. The assistant superintendent of instruction of KHSD, Dr. Brenda Lewis and the activities director at Foothill High School, Raelyn Ruffus will also be speaking at the summit.
