Five semi-trucks collided on Highway 166 near New Cuyama Tuesday morning, killing a Bakersfield man.
45-year-old Elias Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene after CHP officials say his semi began drifting from the eastbound lanes into westbound lanes.
Garcia's truck hit another semi before three other vehicles were hit as well. Three of the four semi-trucks hit by Garcia were driven by Bakersfield residents.
CHP says Garcia was ejected from the car and died as a result of blunt force trauma.
One of the trucks involved in the crash leaked nearly 40 gallons of diesel fuel on to Highway 166. It has since been cleaned up.
This is the second crash on Highway 166 near New Cuyana that has resulted in the death of a Bakersfield resident in a week.
On Labor Day, a two car crash resulted in the death of two Bakersfield children.
