A former Kern County Soccer Park Foundation bookkeeper is being accused of embezzling $165,469.
In January 2015, the foundation reported they hired Denise Wheeler as a bookkeeper. She was in the position until she stopped showing up for work in September 2016.
When she left, the foundation discovered their Wells Fargo Bank account was overdrawn.
The audit showed Wheeler was issuing herself checks written on the foundation’s account number.
The foundation found forged signatures. The forged checks were endorsed by Wheeler, and several were cashed at branches in Kern County.
Police have issued a search warrant on the business to find any records.
