Former Taft resident pleads guilty to drug conspiracy

A citizen of Mexico and former Taft resident pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine.

According to court documents Mario Alvarez-Muniz, 49, delivered two pounds of meth during an undercover operation and left the United States to Mexico in December 2016.

He came back to the United States in May 2017 and shipped six kilograms of heroin and 11 kilograms of cocaine from Bakersfield to Chicago. The drug delivery was intercepted by law enforcement and Alvarez-Muniz was arrested.

Darrell Leon Jennings, 49, of Bakersfield was also involved with this case and is still a fugitive.

Alvarez-Muniz's sentence is scheduled for Jan. 22, 2018.
