Congratulations to the only students in Kern County who qualified as semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program:
· Ryan Crowley, Bakersfield High School
· Adam Hazelton, Bakersfield High School
· Jennifer Pusavat, Stockdale High School
· Abhishek Srinivas, Stockdale High School

These KHSD students began the journey in October 2015 when they were four of the 1,600,000 U.S. high school students who took the PSAT/NMSQT.

In September 2016, the students were notified they were among 50,000 semifinalists and the highest scoring program participants in each state.

The next steps will occur in February of 2017. The semifinalists who meet academic and other requirements will be notified they have advanced to finalist standing and receive Certificates of Merit. Merit Scholars will be chosen from this exclusive group based on their abilities, skills, and accomplishments.

Then in March 2017, 7,500 Merit Scholarship winners will be announced and winners will be awarded in three categories: National Merit Scholarships, corporate sponsored scholarships, and college sponsored scholarships.
