A house fire in southwest Bakersfield sent one person to the hospital with minor injuries early Wednesday morning.

Bakersfield Fire said crews were dispatched to a structure fire in the 10000 block of Sunset Ranch Drive near Buena Vista Rd. and Harris Rd. around 6:15 a.m.

Officials said when they arrived on scene crews reported a working fire in a bedroom toward the front of the residence.

BFD said two people inside and their pets were able to evacuate the home, but one of the people suffered a minor burn and smoke inhalation. The person was treated and transported to the hospital.

The fire was quickly extinguished and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The American Red Cross is assisting the four displaced family members.

Officials said BFD's firefighting efforts resulted in an estimated $100,000 of property saved.
