Fourth of July events happening around the county

KERN COUNTY, Calif. — Independence Day is right around the corner and if you haven't decided what you're doing on the Fourth (or before and after) here's a look at some events happening around the county.

BAKERSFIELD

In Bakersfield, there will be a massive fireworks show at the Park at River Walk! There will be live entertainment before the lights show and Mike Hart and Danielle Kernkamp will be emceeing the event. The festivities begin at 6 p.m. and the fireworks will light up the sky around 9 pm. People are encouraged to bring snacks, drinks, blankets, and chairs. It's free for everyone to enjoy!

SHAFTER

Shafter's 3rd of July Fireworks pops off on July 3 at 6 p.m. at Shafter High School Football Stadium on 526 Mannel Avenue. The celebration features music, food and a kid zone. You can also try your luck at a 50/50 raffle!

McFARLAND

And if you're looking to celebrate a bit early the city of McFarland is holding its Independence Day festival on Wednesday at Mouser Softball Field and Pool. The event will feature a public swim from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for $1. There will also be food, a balloon toss, three-legged race, pie-eating contest and more. A fireworks show will top the night off starting at 9 pm.

TAFT

And the city of Taft will be lighting up the night sky with their fireworks show this upcoming Thursday. The event is being held at Rails to Trails. The festivities are free to attend and will start at 5 p.m. There will be bounce houses, food vendors, a beer garden and live music. Fireworks will start booming around 9 p.m.

TEHACHAPI:

The city is celebrating its traditional All American 4th of July Festival at Central Park and Coy Burnett Stadium. There will be food, kid-friendly activities, live music and a huge fireworks show. This year a Tug-O-War competition will befit the THS Warriors. The all-day fun starts with a All-American 5k at 6 a.m. and ends with a sky concert starting at 9 p.m.

If you're looking to get a early morning workout in before eating all the BBQ, you can run the Tehachapi Valley Recreation & Park District's All American 5K. Prizes given to top overall male and female and top three in each category. The family can also stay and enjoy the City of Tehachapi’s vibrant 4 th of July Festival, including vendors, live music, beer garden, and a children’s parade. To register for the 5k run, click here.
