Kern County is now offering a free discount prescription savings program for residents.

As of Thursday, residents are now able to use the Coast2CoastRx prescription discount card. The program was announced on Tuesday at the Kern County Board of Supervisors meeting.

Those wishing to participate in the program can find cards at all Kern County library branches, most local pharmacies and online at www.coast2coastrx.com/counties/ca/kern.

Kern County Supervisor Leticia Perez says the prescription drug discount cards will help ease some of the financial burdens on individuals and families are facing when they need it the most.

There are no eligibility requirements for the card. Even those who are insured can use the card to save on prescriptions if a particular drug isn't covered on their current health plan.

The discount prescription card can also provide discounts on dental and vision care, veterinary services, hearing aids and supplies as well as lab and imaging tests
