BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Fresh produce from around Kern County will be available during a farmer's market Saturday. The Kern County Young Farmers and Ranchers are hosting their 5th Annual Charity Farmer's Market July 13th in the Chuy's parking lot of Rosedale Highway from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Allie Cushnyr, with the Young Farmers and Ranchers, said they have about 5,000 pounds of free produce donated to them from local Kern County farmers. Everything will have a suggested donated price and the proceeds from the farmer's market will go to the Lamont Boys and Girls Club.

Cushnyr said the Boys and Girls Club is planning on building a garden at their club to help teach their boys and girls where food comes from and the importance of farming and agriculture in Kern County.

The farmer's market will start at 7 a.m. and sell fruits, vegetables, nuts, trees and other produce until 1 p.m. or until they run out of food. Cushnyr said if there is still food left over they will donate it to a local food bank.
