Grand jury indicts Fresno couple for drug possession, conspiracy

FRESNO, Calif. — A Fresno couple has been indicted by a federal grand jury for conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin, according to officials.

On Thursday, the grand jury returned a two-count indictment against 53-year-old Edilberto Vidrio and 46-year-old Elena Castillo.

According to court documents, Fresno Police assisted in serving an unrelated drug search warrant at the couple's apartment. During the search officials say they found around 30 pounds of methamphetamine, a pound of cocaine, and 1.8 pounds of heroin packaged for sale. Scales and other items associated with the sale of narcotics were also found in their apartment.

Vidrio and Castillo were charged with conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin. The couple was also charged with the possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin.

They both face a maximum statutory penalty of life in prison and a $10 million fine.
