Golden Empire Transit (GET) will suspend it's free ride service as the air quality index dips below 151.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the AQI focuses on health effects a person may experience within a few hours or days after breathing polluted air. An AQI over 150 is considered unhealthy and potentially hazardous to the general population.

In a statement, GET said they "will begin charging fares again on Wednesday, September 9, 2020. If the AQI goes above 150, GET will once again implement the FREE rides."

You can monitor the air quality with the free San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District app. The app is available for free on the App Store (Valley Air District) and Google Play (Valley Air).
