FORT TEJON, Calif. — The California Highway Patrol shut down the Grapevine on Christmas night, stranding drivers for hours, due to a massive storm.

CHP and Caltrans working all day Thursday to help get drivers to safety.

"To see them try to push people out, try to, you know back and forth trying to get cars to keep them moving," said Carlos Eussego, a driver stuck on the Grapevine, "The fact that they were helping was amazing."

Eussego became stranded at Flying J's truck stop along the Grapevine in Fraizer Park. CHP helped him move his vehicle off the roadway.

There is no estimate as to when the highway will reopen. Officers said there was heavy snowfall and multiple stuck vehicles.

The suggested detour is Highway 58 to 14, but Caltrans cautioned snow is also falling in that area.
