Grass fire growing near Highway 223 near Granite Construction

UPDATE (October 12, 2017 2:01 p.m.): The Quarry Fire has been stopped from continuing to grow at 183 acres. 

Firefighters are still on scene mopping up hotspots and securing control lines.

UPDATE (October 12, 2017 12:06 p.m.): The Quarry Fire has now burned an estimated 100 acres. 

The fire is burning east of Arvin off of Highway 223.

UPDATE (October 12, 2017 11:32 a.m.): The fire has now burned between 20 and 30 acres in total. 

A Kern County Fire Department helicopter is currently making retardant drops over the fire in an attempt to put it out.

The fire has currently burned about 20 acres according to Kern County Fire Department officials.
