BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Greenlawn Cemetery will now allow customers to bury their pets at the cemetery for the first time according to cemetery officials.

According to the President of Greenlawn Cemetery, Jim LaMar, the new addition of pet burials started within the last week.

LaMar said the cemetery is conducting burials for household pets but not for barn yard animals.

Officials are still working to determine pricing for burial vaults, mowing and future care.

According to state regulations, a predesignated area for a human burial cannot be used for an animal burial.

The cemetery had a property with no preexisting plans so the City of Bakersfield approved the new pet cemetery.

LaMar said the cemetery is also currently accepting name suggestions for the new pet cemetery area.
