BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Beginning June 15, in response to the lack of ability for people to hold funerals for losing loved ones, both Greenlawn cemeteries will hang name-bearing green flags honor the members of families who have lost their loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The tribute is an effort to remember individuals during a time when it was mandated that only a strict number of individuals may attend a funeral.

“There are many things we cannot do during this time,” said Jim LaMar, president of Greenlawn, “but we are spending our time focusing on what we can offer families to help in the healing process. These families weren’t able to have the visitation and service they would have wanted in tribute to their loved ones. So, we’re doing our part in acknowledging those that have passed and supporting their families by creating this public memorial.”
