Bakersfield Congressman Kevin McCarthy has been House Majority Leader for a little more than a year and already there is growing speculation about a possible promotion.
According to political website, The Hill, there are growing discussions about McCarthy possibly taking over for John Boehner as Speaker of the House.
The Hill says multiple members of the House Freedom Caucus have started kicking around the idea and that one member of the Caucus contacted McCarthy to let him know of growing support should Boehner resign or be forced out this fall.
However, sources say McCarthy is not actively trying to gain support for the position.
Neither Boehner nor McCarthy commented on The Hill's story. However, Boehner spokeswoman Emily Schillinger said the current House Speaker "is not going anywhere."
