BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Earlier this week, a local army veteran, Gabriel, reached out to the local Habitat for Humanity organization seeking assistance for much needed furniture.
Gabriel joined the United States Army in 1985. He served as a driver to the Colonel for 11 years. During his service, he lost his hearing and has severe complications in his back and knees.
Six months ago, Gabriel suffered a second stroke. This accident came just three weeks prior to him receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice. His resulting health condition made him unable to work, leading him to depend on social security and disability benefits.
Gabriel’s family moved into apartments under the Housing Authority of the County of Kern last September.
Habitat for Humanity Golden Empire partnered with California Resources Corporation to acquire donations of furniture that his family desperately needs.
Both organizations will come together to deliver the items to Gabriel’s home at about 2:30 pm this afternoon. The delivery includes chairs, a dresser, a bed and box spring, and a bunk bed for Gabriel’s children.
