BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — On Sunday, one person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Bena Road at Neumarkel Road in Bakersfield.
During the course of the investigation, the California Highway Patrol determined a 2016 BMW M428i driven by Jose Toro was traveling westbound on Bena Road approaching Neumarkel Road while a second vehicle, a 2003 Subaru WRX, driven by a 21-year-old man was traveling eastbound on Bena Road approaching Neumarkel Road.
For reasons unknown, Toro failed to maintain his lane and traveled into the opposing lane directly into the path of the Subaru, causing a head-on collision. The driver of the Subaru suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Toro and a passenger in the Subaru suffered minor injuries and were treated at Kern Medical Center.
This collision remains under investigation and alcohol appears to be a factor on the part of Toro.
