BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is scheduled for this Saturday.
This year marks the 27th year of the nationwide event put on by the National Association of Letter Carriers. Held every second Saturday in May, Stamp Out Hunger is the country's largest single day food drive.
If you want to donate, please leave your nonperishable food items outside by your mailbox and they'll be picked up by a U.S. Postal Service worker.
According to Stamp Out Hunger, the most needed items are:
- Canned fruits and vegetables
- Peanut butter
- Canned tuna and chicken
- Dry pasta
- Boxed macaroni and cheese
- Canned soup
Please not that expired food or pet food is not accepted.
If you want to leave out food to be picked up, set it outside well before your letter carrier's normal pickup time and the earlier, the better. The NALC says a good rule of thumb is 9 a.m.
