The National Weather Service has issues a High Wind Warning for the Kern mountain and canyon communities.
Wind gusts are expected to reach 40 m.p.h. and could potentially reach 70 m.p.h.
"You know it's cranking pretty good. It's a good thing I used extra hair spray today," said Bob Barber, a commuter from Apple Valley.
Commuters and Tehachapi residents alike with seemed to agree that they are playing it safe.
Lamar Jackson, a truck driver who stopped on his way from Sacramento understands how prone his truck is to being overtuned.
"If it gets too bad, I just park and pull over," said Jackson.
The High Wind Warning is in effect through 11 a.m. Friday morning.
