After an hours-long closure, Highway 178 through the Kern River Canyon is now open.

The 178 was shut down in both directions just before 11 p.m. Wednesday. Caltrans tweeted just after 9:30 Thursday morning saying all lanes were back open.

The lanes were shut down following rock slides. The California Highway Patrol reported rocks betwen 4 and 6 feet in diamater.
