BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — UPDATE: All lanes re-opened just before 5 p.m.

A major injury crash in the Kern River Canyon temporarily shut down both lanes of traffic. The California Highway Patrol responded to the crash on Highway 178 near Democrat Road just after 3 p.m.

According to the CHP traffic website, the crash was covering both east and westbound lanes. At least one person reportedly has major injuries.
