A pursuit on Highway 99 ended up in a canal east of Wasco late Friday night.

It's unclear what led to the pursuit, but the suspects drove into a canal at around 10 p.m. near the intersection of Highways 99 and 46.

The suspects managed to escape the vehicle and were able to run away. It's unknown if they were injured.

Crews with the Kern County Sheriff's Office and the California Highway Patrol were searching for the two suspects on the ground and by air in a helicopter.
