Democrats at the party's national convention in Philadelphia Tuesday helped Hillary Clinton make history as Clinton was voted as the first female presidential nominee for a major political party in the United States.

Clinton was named the party's nominee during Tuesday's roll call. She will become the official Democratic Party nominee when she gives her acceptance speech at the convention Thursday.

South Dakota delegates put her over the 2,382 delegate votes needed to clinch the party's nomination.

Clinton's top challenger, Sen. Bernie Sanders, was present during Tuesday's roll call vote.

Sanders gave a speech Monday night in hopes to unite his supporters behind Clinton's campaign.

Some far-left progressives have been reluctant to support Clinton's campaign, despite calls from Sanders to back Clinton for president this November.
