The Fox Theater announced on Friday that it was re-opening its doors with a special showing of the "Wizard of Oz" on November 16th.

"We are so excited to be able to open our doors after not being able to see you for 8 months! Bakersfield Hyundai has graciously sponsored a showing of The Wizard of Oz as our first movie back, and tickets are on sale now! We are thankful to be able to welcome you back into the theater, and it's all possible because of this sponsorship," said a statement released by the Fox Theater.

The Fox said that social distancing will be required for the general admission show.

"Guests are allowed to choose their own seats upon arrival; we will require you to keep your party socially distant by allowing a buffer of at least 6 feet between your party and other parties."

Staff will require patrons to move seats if there is not enough distance.

The Fox will employ new cleaning equipment to keep guests safe and will also provide hand sanitizing stations in the lobby.

Additional safeguards will include:

  • Movie showings will have a maximum of 100 guests allowed in the theater per screening.
  • Temperature checks will be performed prior to entering the theater.
  • All guests are required to wear a mask inside The Historic Bakersfield Fox Theater as mandated, except while at your seat or otherwise noted in state guidelines. We are taking precautions to keep our guests safe, and we expect the same of our patrons.
  • If you are feeling ill or are exhibiting symptoms (cough, fever, tiredness) please visit us at a later date.

Tickets for "The Wizard of Oz" will be available in advance online only. Box Office will only be open on the day of the show.
