Homeowner hits a gas line, sparking gas leak and forcing evacuations in Ridgecrest

Posted

The Kern County Fire Department responded to reports of a gas leak in the 900 block of Oregon Avenue near South China Lake Boulevard in Ridgecrest.

KCFD arrived on scene around 11:15 and found the gas leak. KCFD along with the Ridgecrest Police Department evacuated the entire block of houses while they waited for PG&E to respond.

PG&E responded and stopped the flow of gas at 12:00 p.m.

PG&E officials said the homeowner was digging and struck a 1/2-inch plastic service line, sparking the leak.

Once the gas leak was stopped, the evacuation order were lifted and residents were allowed to return home.
